Charles J. H. Stolar, M.D. is certified and re-certified in pediatric and adult general surgery but has limited his practice to the surgery of infants and children for 35 years. He completed his Fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at Children’s National Medical Center in 1982, and joined the Faculty of Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons where he was Pediatric Surgeon-in-Chief and retains his appointment as the Rudolph N. Schullinger Professor Emeritus of Surgery and Pediatrics. While at Columbia Dr. Stolar developed expertise in neonatal surgery and pediatric surgical oncology. He is especially well known for his work with newborn lung anomalies and congenital diaphragmatic hernia. He has published extensively and has represented the specialty in major national and international organizations including the American Board of Surgery, the American Pediatric Surgical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Surgical Association. Also, while at Columbia, Dr. Stolar co-founded and directed the antenatal program as the Center for PreNatal Pediatrics. Dr. Stolar has been included in the “Best Doctors of New York” and “Best Doctors of America” for 28 consecutive years.
Dr. Stolar relocated to Santa Barbara to work with Dr. Keshen and the California Pediatric Surgery Group in the burgeoning effort to expand children’s surgical services in the region. With attending staff appointments at Ventura County Medical Center, Community Memorial Hospital, Cottage Hospital, and Marian Regional Medical Center Dr. Stolar has embraced Dr. Keshen’s enthusiasm for developing the central coast California region as the destination for children’s surgical care.In addition to the clinical practice of pediatric surgery, Dr. Stolar is also active as a Visiting Scholar in the Capps Center for Religion, Public Policy, and Society at the University of California/Santa Barbara.
Dr. Stolar lives in Santa Barbara with Carol Ann his wife of 43 years. Carol is an Ikebana/Ikenobu Japanese flower arranging master as well as an Asian water brush artist of regional renown. Their son Jacob remains an inveterate New Yorker … and like Dr. Stolar, remains a Yankees fan!
